Tamron Celebrates 60th Anniversary with Compact, High-Power 15X Zoom

Tamron (Commack, NY, www.tamron.com) is marketing the world’s most compact, lightweight lens with a 15X zoom ratio. The new Tamron 18–270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD DSLR ultra-high-power lens features a 62mm filter diameter, VC (Vibration Compensation) image stabilization and a Piezo Drive, the company’s first standing wave ultrasonic motor system for SLR lenses. Designed exclusively for digital SLR cameras with APS-C sensors, the 18–270mm zoom weighs just 15.9 ounces while measuring 3.8 inches in length, 2.9 inches in diameter. It features 16 elements in 13 groups and a minimum focusing distance of 19.3 inches. Although the new lens currently supports only Nikon and Canon mounts, a Sony compatible version is expected in the near future. Street price: $649.
