The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City is hosting a Cindy Sherman retrospective exhibition tracing the groundbreaking artist’s career from the mid-1970s to the present. Among the show’s 180 images are the complete “Untitled Film Stills” from 1977 to 1980, centerfolds from 1981, history portraits from 1989 to 1990, fashion photography, sex pictures and clowns. The exhibition also features the American premiere of Sherman’s photographic mural. Unlike almost all other professional photographers, Sherman assumed multiple roles in the creative process, including that of photographer, model, art director, make-up artist, hairdresser and stylist. Following the New York showing—which runs until June 11, 2012—the exhibition will travel to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (July 14-October 7, 2012); Walker Art Center, Minneapolis (November 10, 2012-February 17, 2013); and Dallas Museum of Art (March 17-June 9, 2013). www.MoMA.org
