Tech Tuesday–Fiilex LED Lights Preview

Cine Gear Expo in Los Angeles just wrapped with some interesting announcements including a trio of LED lights from Fiilex. The company name may not be familiar since it’s only been around since January of this year but they’ve been developing a product line of LED lights that are definitely worth a look. The new models, from smallest to largest, are the P100, P180 and the Q500. All feature a dimmable, dense LED array with adjustable color temperature from 3000-5600k.

The smallest, the 12 watt P100, weighs 0.95 pounds, measures 5.8 x 2.8 x 2.8 inches (L/W/H) and, like the slightly larger and more powerful P180, is designed for on-camera use. No measurements are available for the P180, but Fiilex describes it as “smaller than a soda can.” The third new model, the Q500—the first in the company’s new Quasar line—is designed for studio use and, in addition to the same basic features, also offers the ability to control hue (Green/Magenta). Fiilex also promises some additional “surprises” in the final production model.

Pricing and availability are currently unavailable and you’ll have to fill out a form on the Fiilex site to locate dealers, but photographers and videographers should keep an eye on these new lights. The compact P100 and P180 sound perfect for photographers/videographers who shoot mostly in the field. Studio photographers should also check out the Q500. While you’re there, take a look at some of the current Fiilex products as well.
