RF Wedding of the Week: Colombia Wedding Photography by Gesi Schilling

I’m so excited to feature a wedding photographed by Gesi Schilling this week. Based in South Florida, Schilling was one of Rangefinder‘s 30 Rising Stars of Wedding Photography last year, and I love her work because (besides being a fellow Florida Gator), her use of light to create mood is unparalleled.


For this wedding, Schilling traveled to Cartagena, Colombia to photograph Sophie and Michel who met at a wedding in the same town over a year ago, and live in New York City.
“Both families are from Colombia and have residences in Miami,” Schilling explains. “They found me through the bride’s cousin— Sari Azout of Bib & Tuck. I’ve shot for her website.”

One of Schilling’s signature shots is to somehow capture a nude bride getting ready, from a natural, unconscious and flattering angle.



As for equipment, the photographer kept it minimal: “I brought my two Canon 5D Mark IIIs, 45mm TS, 35mm 1.4, 85mm 1.2, 16-35mm 2.8 and a speedlight,” she says. “For daytime beach shots, it’s all available light, night time party shots were a a combination of available light and speed light.”

Schilling says some 900 people attended the wedding, which was tented just outside of the old city in a Central Plaza.
