I have the dubious distinction of being the one who “broke the news” on those very cool Canon White Lens Coffee Mugs that caused a stir at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. Back then, the photo-centric travel mugs were just a limited edition “swag” item handed out by Canon to photographers covering the Winter games.
But after seeing my 2010 post, the photo world went wild over these novelty mugs and third-party companies started selling their own versions of lens-like coffee slurpers to photographers. The novelty has worn off a bit on the photo thermoses since then and, as Steve Huff Photo notes, there are now some pretty good deals to be had on Canon and Nikon-style lens mugs.
If you still want a coffee lens mug, you can get them for as low as $12 at B&H Photo here. (Though, it should be noted, these are not Canon-produced mugs like the original limited edition model shown above. They are made by the FotodioX brand.)
With the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia coming up next month, we wonder what cool new novelty item Canon plans to introduce at the games this time…hmmm…
