Wedding of The Week: A Forest in Lebanon, By Christophe Viseux

One of the things I love most about this weekly blog entry is that we get to bear witness to a diverse range of work and cultures from all over the world. This week, Paris-based documentary photographer Christophe Viseux—who shoots weddings in Dubai, India, Africa and many other exotic locales—shares with us Line and Elias’s mountaintop wedding at The Forest, a fairytale wedding venue in Lebanon.  (All Photos © Christophe Viseux)

“Photography was a top priority for Line and Elias and they were looking for a strong documentary approach,” Viseux explains as to why the couple were attracted to his style. “In Lebanon, it is quite common to have a big production team covering the wedding but I guess they were looking for something a bit more intimate and more personal. The bride had a precise idea of what she wanted for her wedding photography and she was not afraid to bring a foreigner to cover the event. Even though she had to convince her family to go for a less traditional reportage, it all worked out for the best.”

Viseux, who is all digital and used his Canon 5D Mark II with 35mm and 100mm lenses, says most Lebanese weddings take place at night, which is why he had an assistant who carried flashes and continuous light setups.

“Off-camera sources of light will create more dramatic effects in black and white,” he explains. “With this kind of outdoor setup, I also pay a lot of attention to the DJ lights so I can play with them instead of fighting them. I’m always looking for more contrasty scenes that I can straighten out in post production.”

Viseux, an award-winning WPJA photographer, as well as an ISPWP and Fearless member, thrives on providing “fresh, candid and creative photography to tell the story of a couple’s long-awaited day. From high profile to intimate and traditional ceremonies, people are my main focus. I am always on the search for the most spontaneous moments with an authentic yet elegant style.”
