October 21, 2014

By Laura Brauer

Yes, Alien Skin’s Exposure 6 was just released in June and, yes, you read the headline right: Exposure 7 is in the works.

While we don’t have details such as release date or price, you can bet that the next version of Exposure will make an Alien Skin believer out of you—if you’re not one already.

If, by some chance, you’re not familiar with Alien Skin Exposure, it’s a film emulation and creative effects software that is probably one of the best applications of its kind on the market today and certainly ranks as one of my personal favorites. (You can read my full review of Alien Skin Exposure 6 on PDN here.)

While Exposure can be used as a plug-in for Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom and Apple Aperture, it also functions as a standalone app and that’s where the latest updates reside. Open version 7 as a standalone app and you’ll be able to work on RAW files. And, adjustments are non-destructive, too. RAW compatibility is reason alone to update from version 6. Alien Skin has made it easy to access and export files directly from the standalone interface and has added a new crop and rotate panel.

Version 7 also features some new film presets that, as always, are based on original color and black and white film stocks including Kodak Portra 800, Fuji Superia 400, Kodak BW 400CN and Ilford XP2 Super 400. And, they’ve added a host of new textures, too.

Everyone who’s bought or upgraded to Exposure 6 since June will get Exposure 7 for free. Keep an eye on the Alien Skin site for the latest news about this exciting new version of Exposure. Meanwhile, here are a couple of sample images to whet your appetite. (Click here to see more.)
