FJ Wescott has introduced the second generation of its Ice Light LED light wand at the WPPI show.

The Ice Light 2 is 50 percent brighter than the original with a total output of 1,740 lumens of daylight-balanced light. The color accuracy has also been improved; the new Ice Light has a Color Rendering Index (CRI) value of 96.

It also features Bluetooth and according to Westcott, will eventually be controllable using a smartphone app—although that feature won’t be available at launch.

The second-gen Ice Light is dimmable in 18 steps, sports a digital display and a removable battery that’s good for about an hour-plus of continuous use. The battery itself recharges in two hours and you can also operate the Ice Light when connected directly to an AC outlet.

Like its predecessor, the Ice Light 2 was designed by Jerry Ghionis. It’s compatible with the all of the original Ice Light’s accessories such as barn doors and tungsten gels, features a standard ¼-20 socket and weighs under 2 pounds.

The Ice Light 2 is available for pre-order now for $550.
