A Very Blue Wedding, by Donal Doherty [Rf Wedding of the Week]

When sweethearts Louise and Ronan got married at Redcastle Oceanfront Golf & Spa Hotel in Moville (a town and coastal resort on the Inishowen Peninsula of County Donegal, Ireland), the bride had a very clear color scheme that ran throughout the day, says photographer Donal Doherty. “Everything from her own details to the color of the church door matched her blue theme.”

Doherty, who I had the pleasure of meeting at WPPI this year (while sitting by my side on a class break playing the Willy Wonka slot machines!), says that Lousie and Ronan found him online. “They also had a recommendation for me from the wedding coordinator at the wedding venue, as I’ve been blessed to shoot a number of weddings there.”

“It was an insanely sunny day, which is not that usual for Ireland!” Doherty says. “When shooting the bridal party photos, I chose a location in the venue with tall trees, which was a great way to block out the sun a little. I also used the sun to get some flare in some of the images, which I love.”

Doherty continues: “Based in Ireland we are never too far from the coast, and where I live near Donegal, there are some of the most beautiful coastlines in the world. The venue is set right on the water, and on a nice day there’s nowhere nicer. An amazing venue, super fun couple and a gorgeous bride who had great attention to detail meant that Louise and Ronan’s wedding was a dream.”

Lenses: 70-200mm, 24-70mm and “my beloved 50mm f/1.2,” Doherty says. “I love shooting wide open for buttery skin tones and bokeh.”
