With only three frames left in her roll after the ceremony, Minnesota-based wedding photographer Liz Banfield says she had to pick her shots very carefully as the wedding transitioned to the reception at the Calhoun Beach Club in Minneapolis. “I hadn’t coordinated with [the bride and groom] beforehand to capture this moment,” Banfield says. Instead, the photographer credits good timing and a bit of luck for making this shot happen. “The bride had arrived just in time for me to hop out of the car and grab this image.”

Taken with a Contax 645 medium-format film camera, which Banfield says is challenging for capturing motion, getting a great action shot this way is “very gratifying! This photo is everything I love—an authentic, unrehearsed moment, beautifully lit with a cinematic feel. Plus the fact that it’s shot in medium format gives the color richness and detail.”
