Rf 30 Rising Star James Frost (2014) and this couple were exploring the coast of England for their portraits, when he couldn’t help but notice the particular way the waves were crashing up against this gully. “It had nice lines to frame my clients,” he says, “so I set them up close to where the waves were exploding and framed them in the white space that the waves were creating.”

It took a few tries, Frost attests, but in the end their persistence paid off. Shooting with a Canon 5D Mark III and a 35mm f/1.4 II USM, the UK-based photographer insists on always shooting with that particular lens for portraits to achieve what he calls “that lovely, soft look.”
