Once the wedding couple introduced Chicago, Illinois-based wedding photographer Christopher Foltz to this staircase, located in Downtown Chicago near the river, he knew he wanted to use it for a creative wedding portrait. The setup was ideal: “a parking garage with a nice black vertical slat design so I could isolate the couple,” he says, and a parallel staircase located across the way for the photographer to position himself.
The opportunity came when the couple agreed to try something a little different for their first look photos. “It was a great time of the day—the sun was to the west casting the light directly on them, lighting them so beautifully,” Foltz recalls. “It’s such a simple shot, yet you can feel what is going on in both of their minds as the anticipation builds as she makes her way down the stairs. I am so grateful for couples like them that think outside the box.”
