I find “Sunbathers,” by Alison Conklin a fully-engaging juxtaposition of the mundane with the monumental. Here, a bride and her father walk a pier to the boat that will take them to the church where she will be married in a town outside of Naples in Italy. “I shot it so quickly and stood on my tip toes with my hand up in the air just shooting and running and praying that my metering was right,” Conklin explains of this image, which won first place in the Destination category of Rangefinder‘s Wedding Contest and appeared in our Summer Issue. “The bride’s sister was holding her dress behind her, so I didn’t have a shot at my own eye level.” Nevertheless, it worked, and it’s a unique take on a key wedding moment.
