“The delineation that comes from a shadow and a highlight constantly intrigues me,” says Chaz Cruz, an Rf 30 Rising Star in 2013. “When Christina and Ross wanted to do portraits in front of the double silos at Blue Hill at Stone Barns [in upstate New York], I knew that it would be a bit more difficult to get the whole facade evenly lit since it was half washed in harsh midday sun. But I saw the silhouette of the roof’s ridge and watched as Ross walked in and out of the light under it—I knew a gorgeous environmental portrait could be done.”
