Keeping Up in Heels [Rf Photo of the Day]

“There are a lot of elements that I like about this shot,” says photographer Brian Gluys of 222 Photography, who captured this engagement portrait at 6 p.m. outside the School of Architecture at Ohio State University. Gluys describes the couple, Michelle and Tyler, as “really bubbly and up for anything”—perfect subjects for a shot that has so much movement and spontaneity.

“We were on our way to the car and the couple was rushing to make the crosswalk up ahead,” not an easy feat for Michelle, who was wearing heels for the shoot, Gluys recalls. Although he was walking on the other side of the street, the photographer had his camera handy, enabling him to capture this unplanned moment. “I had my eye on this building because of its architectural appeal, but I hadn’t planned to use it specifically for this shoot. However, the grid structure of the building’s vertical and horizontal lines, as well as the shadows and the angle of the sun at this time of day definitely add some extra punch to the shot.”
