Wedding-day father-daughter dances aren’t reserved for brides only. To the jazz trio’s beat, this little girl decided it was time to leap into the light as it poured through the windows of this library, a quaint locale to host an intimate wedding in British Columbia, while clutching her dad’s hands.

“She didn’t speak any English,” photographer Taylor Roades notes of the little girl. “Her father and mother did, but the kids were all Spanish speaking, so normally I’m able to joke around with kids, get them to open up for the camera at a wedding, but this was completely spontaneous because I wasn’t able to interact in any way more than a smile.”

Speaking of Spanish and English, Roades adds, “The bride gave everyone [a copy of] Pablo Neruda’s Love Poems (a book that is in both Spanish and English) as favors, and because the wedding was so small, they read the poems out loud in both languages over dinner, and it was so beautiful.”
