Jess Lee Latone of J.Lee Photography headed to Black Sand Beach in Vik, Iceland, with these newlyweds following their intimate ceremony at Skógafoss. “One very interesting thing about this day is that it was sunny… the entire…day,” Latone says. “When you think of Iceland, you tend to think of dark skies, clouds and rain, but not on this day. It was sunny and even a little—dare I say—warm? It was just such a rare combination of events that resulted in a great experience I will surely never forget.”

The bride, Anne, was smart to wear a dress that was easy enough to climb around in, as Latone likes to go a little off the beaten path. “Since it was so windy, she kept adjusting her dress and holding it down while Christian waited patiently for me to tell them what to do next,” she says, “except there wasn’t a next because I loved them exactly how they were.” It’s the undirected aspects of this shot that struck a chord with Latone when she snapped the shutter. She calls it “the photo before the photo.”
