Patience paid off for photographer Anne-Claire Brun, who captured this newlywed portrait at the White Barn Project in Petaluma, California.

After the wedding ceremony, Anne-Claire had a photo shoot with the couple in the natural northern California sunlight. Towards the end of the shoot, “I noticed the formation of a beautiful pink and golden sunset,” she says, “and knew I wanted to wait and use it for more photos.” However, instead of having the couple wait outside for the perfect moment, the photographer suggested they enjoy their reception while she scouted for a location to setup the shoot.

By the time the sky began to glow, Anne-Claire says, “I knew I wanted to place them in between the trees and the little house on the hill.” About 25 minutes into the reception, she called the couple back outside and instructed them to walk towards the house, then back towards the tree. “I was shooting from downhill and positioned myself on the ground to capture the couple with the sky on fire in the background and their silhouettes,” she says. “The final shot turned out to be exactly what I had hoped for.”

(Shot using a Canon 5D Mark III and a 35mm f/1.4 lens.)
