Snapshots 2.0 Brings All Event Photos Under One Roof

Snapshots, the online photo gallery and portfolio site, has been given a complete makeover with version 2.0 launching this month.

Among the new features being integrated into the service is the ability to tag images so you can efficiently filter through large batches of uploaded images using tag searches. You can now create custom galleries to organize images, such as a proofing gallery, a vendor gallery and a public gallery where event guests can view and purchase images. Guests will also be able to upload their own images to a public gallery from the Snapshots mobile app, so wedding attendees can pool their images with those taken by a professional.

Pro photographers can sell files and prints through Snapshots, but any event guest that uploads their own photos to a public gallery won’t be able to sell those images.

Profits from prints sold through Snapshots are kept by the photographer, Snapshots doesn’t get a cut. You will need to pay a credit card processing fee from Stripe of  2.9 percent plus $0.30 per transaction. Snapshots has partnered with Bay Photo Lab for printing but you can opt to fulfill print orders on your own as well. In that case, payments are handled through Snapshots and Stripe, but fulfilling and shipping the print order is up to you.

What separates Snapshots from rival online photo services, says company founder and CEO Jon Dantes, is that every application of Snapshots is natively coded for a given platform (desktop, iOS, Android, etc.). This way, the user has a better, faster experience that’s optimized for the device they’re on. There’s also an app for Apple TV, so users can view images on the big screen.

The relaunch was guided with input from several leading photographers, including some WPPI regulars like Roberto Valenzuela and Jerry Ghionis, among others, Dantes adds.

Unlike other portfolio sites, there’s just a single price tier. Snapshots costs $20/month and includes unlimited photo storage and unlimited events. You can sign up for a 30-day free trial to kick the tires a bit before committing your cash.
