Canon’s Potent New Powershot: The GX 9 Mark II

Canon rolled out a Mark II update to its PowerShot G9 X advanced compact camera at CES.

The G9 X Mark II features  a 1.0- inch 20.2-megapixel CMOS sensor and DIGIC 7 image processor. It boasts a fixed 28-84mm (35mm equivalent) f/2-4.9 lens and a 3-inch touch screen display.

The G9X Mark II is Canon’s first PowerShot with Bluetooth Smart, which enables the camera to quickly pair with a mobile device for automated image transfers.

Additional features include:

  • Wi-Fi
  • in-camera RAW conversion
  • full HD/60p video recording
  • time lapse movie mode
  • 8.2 fps continuous shooting (in JPEG and RAW)
  • 1/2000 sec. max shutter speed
  • ISO range of 125-6400, expandable to 12,800
  • built-in flash
  • 235 shot battery life, per CIPA

Look for the G9 X Mark II in Feb. It will set you back $530.

Canon is also releasing its older G7 X Mark II in a Video Creator Kit that will bundle an extra battery, a Manfrotto Pixi tripod and a 32GB Sandisk SD card for $750. It’s also due in February.
