It was a cold and snowy day when Wilmington, Delaware-based photographer Kelli Wilke captured the 50th anniversary of high school sweethearts Murray and Randy Sawyer. The couple had married (and had chosen to renew their vows) in the children’s chapel at a local church—which just so happened to be where Wilke sends her children to preschool with the Sawyers’ grandchildren. “I know Randy and Murray socially through our children/grandchildren,” she says. “They are both adorable and very much still in love.”

Because of the chilly weather (and Randy’s sleeveless dress), Wilke had to work quickly to get the shot by the church’s distinct blue and gold exterior door. “I wanted to do a quick setup with one flash, the Canon 600EX II-RT, with a low Gorilla Grip used as a stand. I knew the umbrella would act as a nice diffusion and bring a little light back to their faces,” she says. Paired with the ambient light from the church right behind them, Wilke says this is one super simple setup that worked well in a time crunch.

(Shot using the Canon EOS Mark III and a Sigma 50mm Art lens.)
