Keeping an eye on the kids takes on new meaning when you’re a wedding photographer. Though just barely waist-high and sometimes overlooked, their zero inhibition make them ideal subjects. For Brian Van Wyk (an Rf 30 Rising Star in 2014), knowing what the kids are doing is part of his preamble to capturing frames almost always missed by the bride and groom.

“I almost tripped trying to get to this moment in time,” Van Wyk says. “My favorite shots are always the ones that disappear the moment you take your first frame. A fraction of a second later, they let go of each others’ hands and ran away.” The best part, the photographer adds, is that this was their first time meeting. “One day,” he adds, “I hope to shoot their wedding.”

(Shot with a Canon 5D Mark III and Sigma 24mm f/1.4 ART lens.)
