“It is always difficult going into a wedding day without having met the couple beforehand,” says Maine-based wedding photographer Julie K. Gray. As more brides and grooms head to the beautiful New England state for destination ceremonies, Gray says that it is becoming more common for her to be meeting the couple for the first time on their actual wedding day.

That was the case for this wedding. Gray says that while she had met the bride and groom just about an hour prior to this intimate moment, this is by far her favorite first look image of the year. “It is intimate, tender, candid and a true example of what this moment before the ceremony should be,” she says. “As a whole, this entire wedding epitomized why I decided to go into wedding photography: to witness joy and love, work with kind and trusting people, and be able to enjoy beautiful Maine landscapes.”
