Fuji Filmmaking Foray: New Cinema Lenses for E-Mount Cameras

The company’s optical division is releasing a pair of lenses for Sony E-mount cameras with plans to expand its cinema lens lineup to Fuji’s own X-mount cameras by year’s end.

Both E-mount models in the new MK series are zoom lenses that will maintain a consistent T2.9 aperture throughout their zoom ranges and offer manual iris control and a 200-degree focus rotation. They’ll also both weigh 2.16 pounds with 85mm front diameters and offer consistent color temperatures with other Fujinon cinema lenses.

Fuji’s MK lenses will offer three identically placed gear rings for focus, iris and zoom, a macro function and a Flange Focal Distance adjustment function. According to Fuji, the new MK lenses (like cinema lenses more generally) won’t be prone to focus shift and optical axis shift while zooming.

The new MK series will initially consist of the FUJINON MK18-55mm T2.9, which is due in early March for $3,799 (pre-order). It features a minimum object distance of 2.78 feet.

The next in the series, the FUJINON MK50-135mm T2.9, will be available this summer. This lens will have a MOD of 3.93 feet.

X-mount versions of the MK lenses (with focal lengths of 18-55mm and 50-135mm) are planned for the end of the year, though no further details were provided.
