The Thoughtful Bookworm [Rf Photo of the Day]

Photographer Lauren Pisano was on assignment for the online magazine Girls at Library when she snapped this image of Emma Loughridge in her San Francisco apartment. The portrait was part of a feature that highlights “smart, interesting, creative women who love to read,” Pisano says. “Most of the women aren’t used to being photographed, but it helps that I photograph them in their own home—where they usually read and relax.”

To get this shot, Pisano relied on the natural window light streaming through and simple patience. “I’m very quiet when I photograph,” she says, “and I try to get the subject to forget that I am there, rather than over-directing.”
